the challenge of Darwinism2016-12-23

the challenge of Darwinism on western society  hello guys, I would like to discuss with you about the question which remained last

class. Professor Sun raised the question that what is the revolution Darwinism challenged on western society? Surely it’s Christianity. Christianity believes that the origin of human being left in God, however Darwinism believes that the

human being is a result of nature selection. However, in today’s western society, we see Christianity and Darwinism co-exists in

general. A lot of people actually believe in both from my observation. So my question is that how can the two somehow contradictory idea largely co-exists along the history? How they disgust the major differences on human being? How westerners view the differences lies in their religion and science? Anyone can answer my questions? I would like to hear from you all guys!

Here I'd like to further elaborate the agnosticism.

Agnosticism is the view that certain metaphysical claims – such as the existence of God or the supernatural – are unknown and perhaps unknowable.

According to the philosopher William L. Rowe, "agnosticism is the view that human reason is incapable of providing sufficient rational grounds to justify either the belief that God exists or the belief that God does not exist". Agnosticism is a doctrine or set of tenets  rather than a religion as such.

Thomas Henry Huxley, an English biologist, coined the word "agnostic" in 1869. Earlier thinkers, however, had written works that promoted agnostic points of view, such as Sanjaya Belatthaputta, a 5th-century BCE Indian philosopher who expressed agnosticism about any afterlife; and Protagoras, a 5th-century BCE Greek philosopher who expressed agnosticism about "the gods".The Nasadiya Sukta in the Rigveda is agnostic about the origin of the universe.

The two seemingly contradictory theories  can exist along the history, becauese the Darwinism has never fully denied the possiblity of a superior, supernatural power. So that it didn't fight against those religious leaders constantling claiming that the very force that has enabled the whole natural selection to happen, might be the power from the god. No one can take for granted about that "ultimate force", because, just as what is most precious about Darvinism: the world is constantly changing, and we can not take our common sense for granted.

There are religous people, but there are also skeptical and agonositc. Peoeple generally believe that both skeptical and agonostic are the opponents of religious people, because they don't believe in supernatural. Agonositcs, however, are not that  into this idea. They tend to believe that everything is constantly changing and our whole universe is a giant myth, nothing can take for granted. The existence of God, is not a expression of true or false, but of possibilities.
