Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835—April 21, 1910), better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American author and humorist. He was lauded as the "greatest American humorist of his age," and William Faulkner called Twain "the father of American literature." He is also a master of short story.

Desolation after desolation has swept over me; for each hour of happiness the treacherous trader, Love, as sold me I have paid a thousand hours of grief.

Pleasure, Love, Fame, Riches: they are but temporary disguises for lasting realities—Pain, Grief, Shame, Poverty.

Pleasure, love, wealth and fame aren't meaningless. They just don't last forever. Only when we  see through death, can we know how to live and cherish what we own.

The most precious water in the world are  tears. Love is the most beautiful feeling in the world. Maybe because the fairy can forecast the future, she bursted out of tears for the reason that the most beautiful thing will fade away in the end.

Everyone enjoys pleasure, love, fame and riches, but we need to embrace death as well. It is the terminal station of everyone's life, and we can do nothing to escape from it.

After choosing pleasure, love, fame and riches, the man finally understood what he  really wanted--death. He wanted to die, he wanted to rest, he wanted to find the real peace in his heart. On the way of life, there is no such thing as right or wrong, all we need to do is follow our own will and fight for it.

To his ruin, indeed, the fool gains knowledge and fame, they destroy his bright lot and cleave his head. Many people even lose their hearts on the way of chasing fame, all they want is to gain trust, respect, money or even envy from others. Indeed, they are the kind of people who lack confident deeply and always enthusiastically want to prove themselves.

The man in the book is really lucky for being given chances again and again. There is no doubt that pleasures weigh over so many things in our life that people tend to always want it. But when we are lost in total pleasures, we may become empty and vain, followed by hollowness.

All these mentioned are temporary, they are not gifts but lendings, dangerous lendings and only pain, sorrow, and grief, shame are long lasting. If we get too immersed in the lendings of  our life, we might suffer from those long lasting evils.
